Mary Hess, FNP

I was born and raised in Kentucky. I received an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Elizabethtown Community College in Elizabethtown, KY. I completed my Bachelor’s of Nursing from Bellarmine University (Louisville, KY). During this time I worked as a staff nurse on a medical-surgical unit at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. After getting married, (my husband’s duty station was Fort Irwin, California). I started working for Visiting Nursing Associates of Inland Counties in Barstow, California. During this time I also started working on my Master’s degree in Nursing from Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, CA). After several years in the high desert, my husband was transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, and I taught BSN level nursing students at Columbus State University.

In 1990, I joined the Army Nurse Corps and proudly served. I worked in the emergency department, was head nurse of the residency program, and served as a case manager of the medical-surgical units. After I left active duty, I continued serving my country as a reservist, and also completed my post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Emory University (Atlanta, GA). I have since worked in family practice, emergency medicine, urgent care, student health, endocrinology, retail health, employee health, orthopedics, and now pain management. I completed a Doctorate in Health Administration (abd) in 2015.

I live in Picayune with my spouse of 35 years and my fur babies.
